Make a procedure parameter for a catheter change

You cannot use the intravenous (IV) catheter feature to add more than one IV catheter to a flowsheet. If you must record that you used more than one IV catheter, a practice manager must make a procedure parameter (for example, a replace/change catheter procedure parameter). If you add the applicable procedure parameter to a flowsheet, you can schedule treatment tasks that tell staff when to change the patient's parameter.

To make a procedure parameter, do this procedure.
  1. Select the user account button.
    The user account icon
    SmartFlow shows more settings.
  2. Select SETTINGS.
    The SETTINGS command
    SmartFlow shows the General screen.
  3. In the TEMPLATES AND FORMS section, select Parameters.
    The Parameters command
    SmartFlow shows the Parameters screen.
  4. Select ADD NEW.
    The ADD NEW button
SmartFlow shows the Create new parameter dialog box.
  5. In the Name box, enter the applicable name of the procedure (for example, Replace catheter).
    The Name box
  6. In the Default Section box, select Procedure.
  7. Make the other settings as necessary.
  8. Select Done.
    The Done button
SmartFlow has the procedure parameter. As a result, staff can use the parameter to identify when they changed the patient's catheter. And they can use the Instructions box to record information about the change.
