About treatment templates

Treatment templates control the treatments and workflow tasks in your flowsheets. Use treatment templates to do the same treatments for patients with equivalent needs.

Fixed-time treatment templates

A fixed-time treatment template sets all treatments for a patient to occur at a configured time. If your organization does some procedures at the same time for all patients, use a fixed-time treatment template. As a result, you can easily know when to do the procedures.

For example, your organization gives medication to all applicable patients at the same time. A fixed-time treatment template can make sure that you give regular medication to all applicable patients.

Note: Usually, fixed-time treatment templates are best for small clinics with regular business hours where patients do not stay at night.

Treatment templates without a fixed time

A treatment template without a fixed time sets all treatments for a patient to occur from the time that your organization admits the patient. If your organization uses the time of a patient's admission to calculate when to do treatment for the patient, use a treatment template without a fixed time. As a result, you can easily know when to do the procedures.

For example, your organization has an emergency ward with patients who require treatment at specified times. You can use a treatment template without a fixed time to make it easy to schedule the treatments.

Note: Usually treatment templates without a fixed time are best for large clinics that can admit patients during the day or night.

Note: If your SmartFlow site uses treatment templates without a fixed time, you can use the boarding whiteboard to add a fixed-time template. Before you can use the boarding whiteboard to add a fixed-time treatment template to a flowsheet:
  1. A practice manager must configure the boarding whiteboard
  2. You must make the applicable fixed-time treatment template

About changes to treatment templates

After you make a treatment template, you can change it. For example, you can:
  • Add parameters or remove parameters
  • Change the sequence of parameters
  • Change parameter settings
  • Configure workflow tasks
Note: To change a treatment template, you must add the template to a flowsheet, then save the treatment template again.
Note: If your organization uses treatment templates without a fixed time, you must change parameter settings to change the schedule of treatment tasks. If you manually add a treatment task to a flowsheet before you save the template, SmartFlow does not save the changes.

About the sequence of treatment templates

When you add a treatment template to a flowsheet, SmartFlow shows a list of your organization's treatment templates. SmartFlow shows:
  1. Templates that start with a symbol (for example, -)
  2. Templates that start with a number (for example, (1, 2, or 3)
  3. Templates in an alphabetical sequence
