How SmartFlow calculates doses for medication treatments

After you add a medication treatment to a patient's flowsheet, SmartFlow shows treatment settings for the medication. SmartFlow uses the medication concentration and information that you enter in the Dosage boxes to calculate the total dose to give a patient.

Note:

SmartFlow cannot calculate the total dose of a medication unless

:
  • The unit of measurement of the concentration is the same as the unit of measurement of the dosage
  • You use the third Dosage box to make a selection (for example, select patient weight)
Important: A new SmartFlow site always has some treatment templates. Some of the treatment templates have medications. The dosage of the medications use examples from Plumb's. Before you use the treatment templates, make sure that the dosages of the medications are correct.
