Methods to administer a previously prescribed medication
SmartFlow has three methods that you can use to record a previously prescribed medication that you administered for a patient. An example of when to use the methods is when a patient comes to your practice with medication that a different practice prescribed for them.
- Make a parameter for the patient's medication
- Use the Custom box of the Edit patient dialog box
- Change the color of the applicable treatment task
- Make a service fee product in your PIMS, sync the product to SmartFlow, then make a parameter that connects to it
- Make a record for the medication in your PIMS and set a price, sync the record to SmartFlow, then connect it to the medication in SmartFlow
Method: Make a parameter for the previously prescribed medication
A practice manager can make a parameter to identify a previously prescribed medication. To clearly identify the medication as one that was previously prescribed, they can enter O before the medication name. For example, if the patient came to your practice with Clavamox Drops, the practice manager can make a parameter with the name O 62.5 Clavamox. Then, staff can add the applicable treatment to the patient's flowsheet and schedule treatment tasks if necessary.
For how to make the parameter, refer to Make a medication parameter for a previously prescribed medication.
Method: Use the Custom box of the Edit patient dialog box
- The GENERAL INFO section in the patient information section of a flowsheet
- The applicable patient card in whiteboards
Method: Use a dedicated color for the applicable treatment task
You can set one of a range of colors for a treatment task. To identify a previously prescribed medication, you can make a decision to use only one of the colors. For example, you can use only green to identify a treatment task that uses a medication that the patient came to your practice with.
For how to set a color, refer to Change the color of a treatment task.
