Different methods to identify that you are using a patient's medication

There are different methods that you can use to identify that you are using a patient's medication, and not dispensing the medication.

You can:
  • Use the Custom box of the Edit patient dialog box
  • Change the color of the scheduled treatment task
  • Make a parameter for the patient's medication
Note: You cannot use these methods to automatically invoice the client to dispense the medication. If you want to invoice the client for the dispensation, you can:
  • Add an admin fee parameter to the flowsheet
  • Add the applicable product to your PIMS and sync the product to SmartFlow

Use the custom box of the Edit patient dialog box

If you use the Custom box, SmartFlow automatically:
  • Shows the information in the GENERAL INFO section of the flowsheet
  • Shows the information on the patient card of the whiteboard

Change the color of scheduled treatment task

If necessary, you can change the color of a scheduled treatment task. For example, you can use the color green to identify a patient's medication.

Make a parameter for the patient's medication

A practice manager can make a parameter for the patient's medication. The practice manager can change the name of the medication to identify that it is the patient's medication. For example, if the patient owner brought in their own Clavamox drops, the practice manager can name the parameter Own Clavamox drops. After the practice manager makes the parameter, staff can add the parameter to the patient's flowsheet.
Note: If your practice information management system (PIMS) is integrated with SmartFlow, SmartFlow automatically syncs the values of the medication that you dispensed to the patient's clinical record. But because the medication does not have a product record in your PIMS, your PIMS cannot automatically add the information to the patient owners invoice.
