About resuscitation statuses

A resuscitation status tells staff what interventions that a patient can receive in a life-threatening emergency.

This table gives each resuscitation status that is available in SmartFlow and when to use it:

Resuscitation statusWhat the status identifies
advanced life support (ALS)Use ALS for patients who can receive very invasive interventions.
basic life support (BLS)Use BLS for patients who can receive only usual interventions.
do not resuscitate (DNR)Use DNR for patients who receive no intervention.
Note: Unless your PIMS syncs a different resuscitation status, new patient records automatically have the BLS status.
SmartFlow shows a resuscitation status:
  • In patient cards in whiteboards
  • In the patient information area of a flowsheet
