Medication invoicing: Quantity shown when you enter a number and set unit of measurement for a completed treatment

When you complete a medication treatment task and enter a number, SmartFlow uses the number and the unit of measurement from the treatment settings to calculate the medication quantity shown in the Billing report.

The medication quantity shown in the Billing report is a result of these steps:
  1. You set up a medication treatment.
  2. In the treatment settings, you use Show on flowsheet setting to select a unit of measurement (as a result, the patient's flowsheet shows the unit of measurement that you selected).
  3. You complete a treatment task and enter a number.
  4. SmartFlow uses the number from step 2 and the unit of measurement from step 1 to calculate the medication quantity shown in the Billing report.
Note: The unit of measurement as shown in the Billing report is the one that that a practice manager initially configured for the medication, not the unit of measurement that you selected in step 1.

If you manually enter a number for a medication treatment, SmartFlow uses the unit of measurement from the parameter setting Show on flowsheet.

Note: Make sure that the number that you enter for a medication treatment is correct for the unit of measurement shown on the flowsheet. If the number for the unit of measurement is incorrect, the Billing report will show an incorrect medication quantity.Example of the units of measurements of medications

You add a medication to a patient's flowsheet. In the Show on flowsheet setting, you select Total (ml).

The Show on flowsheet settings

When you do the medication treatment, you manually enter 0.5 in the patient's flowsheet.

Example of a completed treatment task

Because you selected Total (ml) in the Show on flowsheet setting, SmartFlow knows that you used 0.5 ml for the treatment.

SmartFlow makes a record of 0.5 ml in the patient's billing report.

Example of the units of measurement of a medication

You add a medication to a patient's flowsheet. The Concentration for the medication is 5 mg / ml. In the Show on flowsheet setting, you select Total (mg).

The Concentration settings and the Show on flowsheet settings

When you do the medication treatment, you manually enter 0.5 in the patient's flowsheet.

The unit of measurement of medication and a completed treatment task

Because you selected Total (mg) in the Show on flowsheet setting, SmartFlow knows that you used 0.5 mg for the treatment.

Because the medication Concentration is 5 mg / 1 ml and you used 0.5 mg, SmartFlow makes a record of 0.1 ml in the patient's billing report.
